Chung Gia Hân

A conversation with Chung Gia Hân – Winner of Vietnam America Voice 2016

Despite her petite appearance, Gia Han possesses a powerful and distinctive voice. Winning the Vietnam-America Voice final brought Gia Han many beautiful memories. Let's chat with Gia Han, a BTEC-level Hotel Management student.

What brought you to Viet My Voice 2016?

First of all, I love to sing and want to bring great performances to everyone. Also, through this competition, I want to preserve the happy memories of my student life. I've also made many new friends, including other contestants, members of the Student Council, and especially the judges of the program.

How do you feel after winning the award? Who was the first person you shared this good news with?

When I won the first prize in the competition, I felt happy and surprised, especially thrilled. The first people I shared this joy with were Ha My, my classmate who also participated in the competition, and Duong Tung, who supported me during training.

The songs you chose to perform in the final were "Dream" and "California King Bed." Why did you choose these two songs? How would you rate your performances on a scale of 10?

My voice is naturally low and usually suits songs with a lower register. For the final round, I wanted to break through and challenge myself more, so I chose songs that required a higher vocal range. And I only had one afternoon to practice the song "Dream." Perhaps that's why I feel my performance wasn't perfect in many ways.

Besides the achievements, what did you find most rewarding about this program?

Through this competition, I've gained a better understanding of my strengths and found ways to develop them in the future. I've also learned many ways to handle situations, and most importantly, I've built many relationships and made many new friends through this competition.

What are your future plans? Do you want to develop yourself in the field of music?

My plan for the future is to focus on my studies. Regarding singing, I will work on improving to overcome any shortcomings in my vocals. Additionally, I hope to gain more experience in singing, such as performing at acoustic cafes and events, to further hone my skills.

Do you have anything you'd like to share with the Vietnamese-American students?

I want to tell the students at my school that you shouldn't be afraid to express yourselves. Confidently join clubs and groups at school to discover your strengths and improve yourself. For example, if you like dancing, just join a singing club; you might discover that you sing very well too. (laugh)

Thank you, Gia Han, for your sincere and interesting sharing. I wish you even more success in both your studies and your singing career.
