In reality, the first thing you need to do to succeed in this field is to be "suitable" for it. So let's look at four very familiar characteristics that can "predict" your suitability for the PR industry!
1. You are passionate about news.
News is an indispensable part of your life. From music and movies to political, social, and economic news, everything is fascinating. Public relations professionals use the "power of media" to build a positive image for businesses and organizations, requiring them to be highly responsive to news. If you have a strong passion for news in newspapers and other media, that's already a strong indication that you're well-suited to this field!
2. The ability to engage in "cross-border conversation," even with people you've just met.
Successful public relations professionals are those who always take control when talking to strangers. Shyness seems to have no place in a PR professional's contact list when communicating. You have to constantly expand your network, working with the media on a continuous basis. And a professional PR person knows that a new relationship can come from the person sitting next to you on a trip.
3. You are tough and have a "thick skin".“
Public relations is the bridge between a brand and the public, working through the media. Therefore, in any aspect, we have to work with people and many relationships. You can't control everything, so conflict is a common occurrence. If you're soft-spoken and easily hurt, this job might not be right for you. Consider a different career, definitely not public relations.
4. You enjoy writing, even if you're not a good writer.
How do you relieve sadness? You write. How do you share your joys? You write. How do you preserve beautiful memories in life? You also write. If you enjoy writing and using words to express your feelings, congratulations! Whether you write well or not, this is a great sign that you could enter the PR industry! Of course, putting emotions into writing is not advisable in practice, but only those who love words can easily thrive in PR.
