Dr. Tran Vinh Du: "What I fear most is mediocrity, not suffering or happiness."“
Dr. Tran Vinh Du is currently the General Director of TNK Capital financial company and a founding shareholder of ISmart Education Group in Ho Chi Minh City. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics (1999) and worked as a lecturer at the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (1999-2001). He earned a Master's degree in Economics (2003) and a Ph.D. in Economics (2007) from the University of Texas at Austin. His studies and research there were fully funded by the Harvard Yenching Scholarship Fund, part of Harvard University.
He is also famous for his graduation speech at the Vietnamese-American College.
As a friend, he shared three most valuable things: failure, the finiteness of life, and success and happiness. “There are failures that will make you cry. There are failures that will leave you speechless. There are failures that will make you lose faith and fall for a while. There might even be failures that hurt so much you wish you had never been born. In those moments, remember that everyone goes through similar challenges. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. I hope that’s true for you.”
Furthermore, he is also known for giving up a salary of 2 billion VND per year abroad to return to Vietnam to work. When asked if he regretted this "crazy" decision, he replied that he never regretted it. He is Vietnamese, and for better or worse, he still wants to live, work, experience, grow old, and leave this world as a Vietnamese person..."“
