Students from Viet My College joined BayMax – the sweet cartoon hero – on a journey throughout the city to bring a little "springtime" to those in need.
These days, the streets are becoming more bustling, filled with the vibrant red and yellow of apricot and peach blossoms, and twinkling lanterns welcoming the start of a new year full of good fortune. People and families are busy preparing, shopping, and decorating their homes beautifully and warmly to welcome a joyful and happy Tet holiday with their loved ones.
However, amidst the joy, excitement, and anticipation, there are circumstances that prevent people from enjoying this shared happiness. Somewhere, there are still countless unfortunate, lonely, and homeless individuals, children huddled under eaves waiting for dawn… Understanding this hardship, and aware of the responsibility of young Vietnamese people, students from the American College of Technology (APC) and Broward College Vietnam have joined hands to carry out the program “Sharing the Love of Tet with Baymax,” with the aspiration to share love and bring a little “spring” to those in need.
Dinh Thang, president of ET Club (Events Club of Viet My College) and the main organizer of the program, said: “We chose the cartoon character Baymax as the name of the program because this kind-hearted chubby friend is very popular with young people. Specially designed to heal illnesses and wounds, Baymax is a sweet and incredibly warm hero; he will take care of you wholeheartedly and will never leave you until you are well again. We chose him as the ambassador of the program to convey the message of sharing love and emphasize that Vietnamese youth will never be indifferent to society and the community.”
The money raised from the program will be donated to 130 orphaned children and 13 elderly people living alone at Tu An Pagoda – Group 16, My Tan Hamlet – My Xuan Commune – Tan Thanh District – Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

Students from Vietnam-America College (APC) and Broward College Vietnam have been traveling with BayMax throughout the city, from District 1 to District 7, visiting locations such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Lotte Mart, 23/9 Park, White Rabbit Park, Dam Sen Park, etc., since January 29th. The journey continues with the following schedule:
- Thursday (February 5, 2015):
- 11:30 AM at the International American Education Organization (IAE) Building – 5-11 Street No. 4, Trung Son area, Binh Chanh.
- 7 PM at Le Thi Rieng Park, District 10.
- Friday (February 6, 2015): 7 PM at the Starlight Bridge, District 7.
- Saturday (February 7, 2015):
- 8:30 AM at the City Post Office, District 1.
- 3 PM at Tu An Pagoda, Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
This is a program that ET Club, along with APC students and Broward College Vietnam, are very passionate about – continuing the highly successful "Christmas is Giving 2014" charity journey. A little care from each individual can weave a new garment, making spring warmer for those in need. Join this meaningful program with the students by arriving on time and at the scheduled location; Baymax APC will be waiting for you there to share and give love.
