Vocational training – a shorter path, many opportunities.

In the current situation of "too many teachers, too few skilled workers," a university degree is not the only path to success for young people. Choosing a career that provides a good income, leads to early employment, and ensures a stable life is a major concern for many parents and students.

Any path can lead to success, as long as you have passion, determination, and daily effort…

The future is in your hands.

For many students, failing the university entrance exam means the door to their future is completely closed. Many of them feel discouraged, hopeless, and even resort to negative actions. However, a large number of young people have proactively chosen a path in life without a university degree.

In fact, in today's labor market, while many university graduates struggle to find jobs, skilled workers are highly sought after and recruited by many businesses.

With over 8 years of experience recruiting workers in the electronics industry, Ms. Do Viet Hong, from the Human Resources Department of Hamaden Japan Company (headquartered in Pho Noi A Industrial Park, Hung Yen), said: “During the interview process and candidate selection, my company usually pays attention to the profiles of workers who have received vocational training. Firstly, they have practical work experience and don't demand excessively high salaries. Secondly, they are workers who can withstand work pressure, have good problem-solving skills, and are highly adaptable.”.

Many young people have proactively chosen to enter life without going through the gates of university.

Also appreciating the value of vocational training, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, owner of a rattan weaving production facility in Tien Xuan commune (Thach That district, Hanoi), shared: “Our ancestors had sayings like 'mastering one skill brings honor' or 'a vast field is not as good as a skill in hand,' implying the importance of learning a trade. Today, those concepts still hold true. I see that young people today have many opportunities to establish themselves and build a career. University is not the only door to life; you should choose to learn a trade you love. Because with a skill, you will have a future!“.

Which industry sectors are currently "hot"?

According to statistics from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, there are currently nearly 2,000 vocational education institutions nationwide, including: 397 colleges, 519 secondary schools, and 1,032 vocational training centers. Annually, these institutions train approximately 2.2 million people, including: about 230,000 college-level students, about 315,000 secondary school students, and about 1.6 million people in basic-level and vocational training programs; providing vocational training support to approximately 800,000 rural workers…

Meanwhile, statistics from the Hanoi Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs show that, as of the end of June, the city had provided employment for 95,196 out of 154,000 workers, achieving 61.81% of the annual plan. Of these, 25,000 jobs were created through loans from the National Employment Fund totaling 990 billion VND; and 9,157 workers were recruited at 55 job fairs.

In vocational education, during the first six months of the year, vocational education institutions in the city enrolled and trained 50,270 people, achieving 24.51% of the plan, an increase of 3.51% compared to the same period in 2018.

Choosing a vocational field but deciding which one will ensure employment is always a major concern for students and parents. According to Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Quan, in the coming years, industries and professions with high demand for human resources include: Information Technology; Marketing; Public Relations; English, Japanese, and German; Construction Engineering; Food Technology; Biotechnology; Tourism; Restaurant and Hotel Management; Culinary Arts; Shipbuilding Technology; Industrial Electronics; Automotive Technology; Mechatronics; Graphic Design; Nursing and Midwifery; Beauty Care; and Aviation…

Deputy Minister Le Quan also noted: "Choosing where to study is also a matter that parents and students should carefully consider to avoid situations where schools advertise beyond their actual capabilities. Based on the fields and professions that are in high demand in society, parents and students need to find out which schools are offering those programs before making a decision.".

Besides industries like electrical engineering, electronics, refrigeration, mechanical engineering, automation, and materials technology, which always have high demand for manpower, there are also many "hot" professions such as: beauty care; food processing industry; marketing; tourism; restaurant and hotel management, etc.

In fact, many young people have abandoned university education to pursue vocational training. Many successful individuals have risen through the ranks from vocational training, achieving glory in ASEAN and world skills competitions and achieving career success. Notable examples include: Bui Tho Tien, Hanoi Tourism College, ASEAN Gold Medal 2012; Tran Anh Tai, Hanoi High-Tech Vocational College, ASEAN Gold Medal 2014; Nguyen Thuan Hai, Hung Vuong Vocational College, ASEAN Gold Medal 2016; Nguyen Van Thiet, Hanoi High-Tech Vocational College, one of the top 10 outstanding individuals in Hanoi in 2016, ASEAN Gold Medal 2016…

Choosing between university and vocational training is a major life decision that must be carefully considered based on each individual's abilities, interests, and circumstances. Certainly, a university education is not the only path to success!
