“"High-paying jobs" was the focus of the talk show "Databases in the Digital World: Challenges and Opportunities" organized by the Faculty of Information Technology on the afternoon of April 21, 2023.
Mr. Tran Cong Mua – Head of the Information Technology Department – opened the talk show with the benefits and importance of databases in the digital world in particular and in modern life in general. The presentation was quickly given to Mr. Bui Quoc Dat, who had an impressive background. Mr. Bui Quoc Dat is currently a Senior Developer, developing web projects on major technology platforms such as Java and Cloud Computing (ServiceNow) at CyberLogitec Vietnam. Previously, he held the position of Leader Oracle Full Stack Developer at a product company specializing in ERP.
Mr. Bui Quoc Dat shared his learning journey. He began his exposure to information technology and gained practical experience working in businesses while still a freshman. Currently, he is a student at the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. He first shared his knowledge about databases. Following that, he focused on his practical experiences in a business environment and outlined the opportunities and challenges for IT students in today's competitive job market.
Developer (System), DBA (Database Administrator), Data Engineer, BA (Business Analyst) are prominent career opportunities mentioned by Mr. Quoc Dat. Along with this, he discussed the "lay-off" issue, emphasizing that in technology companies, even high-level and experienced personnel can be laid off. He advised, "We should make ourselves unique." We can visualize this by becoming an indispensable part of the projects we participate in. Furthermore, he gave the students of Viet My College a truly impressive demonstration using the currently popular GPT chat software. He pointed out that alongside the opportunity to learn and experience new information, the challenge, especially for Gen Z, is the self-limiting nature of their work due to over-reliance on software.
The sharing session was enjoyable, and the students asked many questions about areas of interest to them, from blockchain, servers, and data backup, to questions about their studies, jobs, opportunities, and how to keep up with current trends. This shows that the students at Viet My University are very dynamic and always proactive in seeking information surrounding their chosen field.
Touched by the students' eagerness to learn, Anh Dat emphasized that "a good library, a good group of friends, and a wise mentor" are essential for seizing new opportunities and becoming the person they've always admired. He also stressed that the saying "IT professionals earn thousands of dollars" is entirely true if they are diligent, hardworking, and persistent in their work.
Following up on Quoc Dat's remarks, Professor Tran Cong Mua advised the Information Technology students to strive for excellence, be meticulous in their work, and listen to feedback in order to continuously improve. The Head of Information Technology's words of encouragement concluded the talk show. It is certain that, after this sharing session, the students of Viet My University will gain many valuable lessons and recognize the opportunities and challenges in the job market, thereby enabling them to formulate a suitable learning path and build the right foundation for their future.
