Letter to students from Professor Duong Tran Minh Doan

Letter to students from Professor Duong Tran Minh Doan

Listen up, kids. From my experience, I understand the importance of skilled professionals in today's modern world. Our country desperately needs skilled people, people who can actually get things done, not just those who give orders. Sadly, however, society has a negative and dismissive view of vocational schools and colleges in general. Everything has its reasons, my dear students.

Vocational colleges, aiming to train a wide range of people in trades, do not require entrance exams or selection processes. Anyone who has graduated from high school can choose a trade to be trained in at vocational schools. This has been implemented for a long time in developed countries like the United States. However, in Vietnam, with a preference for academic degrees, attending a school without exams is considered a sign of weakness, even though many students are very capable. Furthermore, students are not trained in a professional learning attitude from the beginning, leading to instinctive behavior and following the crowd. This results in tardiness, lack of study, failure to follow instructors' instructions, copying others' work, and cheating on exams, ranging from discreet to blatant. This leads to low-quality training, a lack of serious work ethic, and consequently, difficulty finding employment and low job evaluations. This is not solely the fault of the students.

People look down on colleges for the following reasons:

  • Underperforming students (due to not being selected for admission)
  • Poor quality of training
  • Students have poor attitudes, making it very difficult for them to find jobs.

Our school GUARANTEES employment for students upon graduation.

What do students need when they come to Viet My? A degree to keep up with their peers? Fun time with friends? Or a career for themselves?

The answer from most people would be to study for a career. Viet My understands this, and this is the school's mission: "to train high-quality human resources with a commitment to employment for students.".

Perhaps you haven't fully grasped the importance of the statement, "Viet My commits to providing employment for graduates of the program." It's crucial to understand that this is a COMMITMENT, not just a promise. To fulfill this commitment, Viet My has placed orders with partner businesses, meaning Viet My must supply the workforce according to their specific requirements. So, what do these businesses need?

  • Hard knowledge: This includes knowledge in accounting, human resources, marketing, reception, etc., that you learn in your core courses.
  • Soft skills are skills that support quick integration into the business environment and effective job performance, such as time management, teamwork, self-management, communication, presentation writing, and report writing. These are skills taught in two official courses: Study Skills (semester 1) and Work Skills (semester 7), and are integrated into all subjects in the program. This is something that Vietnamese workers severely lack.
  • A positive and professional work attitude: always thinking of ways to improve work, not bringing personal matters into work, being eager to learn and striving for advancement. This is something that Vietnamese workers are weak in.

Viet My provides training to supply labor according to the requirements of businesses. Therefore, when participating in this program, you have two options:

  • First, it is necessary to thoroughly understand and strictly follow the guidelines in order to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills.
  • The second option is to eliminate themselves from the program.

We don't use substandard products, and neither do businesses; they don't pay for unskilled labor. No success comes without hard work. From now on, think and act for your future. Your teachers are always ready to support you.
