Graduating with a major in Business English Translation from Viet My College in 2013, Nguyen Tuan Anh sees it as a solid stepping stone to pursue his passion for teaching English. Overcoming many difficulties and challenges in his career, Tuan Anh is currently the Academic Director of the New York Springboard Center – New York English School.
Viet My College offers practical value.
Mr. Tuan Anh: “"First, the biggest difference between me and my classmates is that I had already graduated and worked before returning to school. Although it was difficult, it allowed me to combine the knowledge imparted by my teachers with the practical experiences I had encountered.".
Studying at Viet My College helped him understand the connections between different areas of linguistic knowledge and apply that knowledge to teaching.
Why did you choose Viet My College instead of a university?

Mr. Tuan Anh: Besides the potential risks, he also has to worry about making ends meet. Before choosing Viet My College, he researched many schools, but Viet My College only uses an application review process, not an entrance exam. At the same time, the school was collaborating with TESOL training programs, so he decided to enroll there.
At that time, Viet My College offered Tuan Anh three advantages: Firstly, it shortened the study period with an entrance requirement primarily based on English proficiency. Secondly, Viet My College's program involved collaborations with international partners, making it more reliable. Thirdly, because he had prior work experience, Tuan Anh felt that the school's training program was practical and aligned with his aspirations.
Overcome difficulties to learn and improve.
Mr. Tuan Anh: “I faced many difficulties in preparing lessons for various student groups, especially students from outside the region. When I worked at Wall Street English, I set a goal for myself to become a leader in the shortest possible time. Therefore, I took on the most challenging tasks for the team. For me, the more pressure I faced, the more I learned. Later, working at Adam Khoo, I was given the challenge of developing a curriculum. At that time, I lacked experience, so I sought help from my former teachers at Viet My College and received dedicated guidance from them.”.

Through challenges, he tried to see things from a simpler perspective and set a goal for himself of around 60%. Then, he gave himself the opportunity to correct mistakes, gradually learning and improving. Working in many different fields and jobs, he understood that the job market is not as simple as we think. It's not just about having expertise; you also need a holistic view, a strategy, and a plan… To reach his current position, he has overcome many difficulties and challenges from both employees and superiors.
Students at Viet My College possess many outstanding advantages.
Mr. Tuan Anh: “From 2018 to the present, Viet My College has been almost the main source of manpower for the New York Springboard Center. In terms of attitude, I highly rate the students from Viet My College. They know where they stand and understand their own development path. This also makes it easier for recruiters like me to decide whether or not to invest in them. In terms of expertise, Viet My students are also significantly better than those from other schools.”.

Mr. Tuan Anh:“Currently, the subjects at Viet My College are more interconnected. Students are not only taught visual concepts but also the fundamentals of English. Therefore, I hope you will cherish what you are learning because you possess something that previous generations like me did not have. Even compared to the workforce from other schools and some university students, Viet My students have many outstanding advantages. It can be said that Viet My is refining what other schools have failed to do.
Advice for future generations of students.
Mr. Tuan Anh: Students majoring in Business English Translation need to understand that they can work in many fields after graduation. For example: teaching, customer service, reception, etc., not just translation and interpretation. Therefore, when enrolling in this major, you need to equip yourself with a comprehensive understanding of language. In today's era, language is essential regardless of the field you work in. I still remember what Ms. Mai Trang – Head of the English Department – often told us, "The career development and advancement in the language field is very uncertain. If you have chosen the language field, then having more and more knowledge and teaching more accurate knowledge to students is success. Or, if one day you translate a really good topic and you have satisfied all the client's requirements, that's already great.".
These are the messages Tuan Anh wants to convey to students of Viet My College.
Mr. Tuan AnhFirst of all, I must say I'm very envious of what the Vietnamese-American students have achieved. However, I want to tell you all: "Being a star here doesn't mean you'll be a star elsewhere." Each person's value is finite, not infinite. No success comes easily, so always strive your best.

Here are some interesting facts about Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh:
- Nguyen Tuan Anh started out as an IT engineer. After several years of working, Tuan Anh realized his passion for teaching foreign languages and set a goal to master the English language.
- Becoming a student majoring in English Translation at Viet My College, Tuan Anh faced another disadvantage compared to his classmates: he had studied French during high school. From this, he understood that he had to work twice as hard to achieve his goal. True to his word, he made the most of every class, always recording and taking notes, and never missing a single class to listen to lectures. If he didn't understand something in class, he would always ask his teachers for clarification.
- He also experienced unemployment, and during those six months, he understood that life always involves risks, and it is in these risks that one learns to appreciate the present and value their own vitality.
