Qualifications will become less important than practical work skills.

Insights from experts at the Open Day program: Future career guidance.

If asked what determines job opportunities and a stable income, many young people would think of academic qualifications. However, qualifications are meaningless without practical work skills.

This was the sentiment shared by many recruiters in trending fields such as restaurant and hotel management, media, and public relations… during the "Future Career Orientation" program.

A degree doesn't decide everything.

Today, many young people still believe that simply having a good degree from a prestigious school will open up numerous job opportunities. This might have been true many years ago, when Vietnamese businesses operated on outdated models, lacking flexibility and creativity. However, with the continuous development and integration of the economy, the need for young, dynamic, and highly skilled human resources has become a vital factor for businesses. Employers now need more than just a degree.

Ms. Nguyen Que Anh, Human Resources Director of McDonald's Corporation, stated: "We do not discriminate based on college or university degrees, nor do we place much emphasis on work experience. For recent graduates or high school graduates, a positive work attitude, discipline, and teamwork spirit will be the most important factors for recruitment.".

Choose a career path based on your strengths.

Choosing a career path is always a difficult issue, not only for high school students but also for their parents. Many young people are still unsure about choosing a school and major that suits them, often just following the crowd and applying to professions that are considered popular without considering their own suitability.

According to Mr. Trang Minh Ha – Group Training Manager of Thien Minh Group, understanding who you are and what your strengths are plays a crucial role in achieving career success. It is the most fundamental and solid foundation for becoming a successful person. Sharing the same viewpoint as Mr. Trang Minh Ha, Ms. Do Huong – former Head of the Southern Office of the newspaper – also shared this view. Sports Today He offered advice to young people: "You should pursue a career that suits your abilities and interests. Don't try to study according to what others want; study according to your own desires.".

Improve your skills every day.

To prepare themselves well for the job market, young people must continuously improve their skills while still in school, especially practical work skills. Specifically, for employers, the optimal choice is a workforce with a positive work attitude, a thirst for learning, and the ability to adapt to specific circumstances and situations. Furthermore, to impress employers, young people should proactively seek part-time jobs, internships, and apprenticeships, as well as actively participate in social activities to accumulate practical experience.

If asked what determines job opportunities and a stable income, many young people would think of academic qualifications. However, qualifications are meaningless without practical work skills.
