Although the high school graduation exam was considered relatively easy, the cut-off scores for admission to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City in 2020 are predicted to remain relatively unchanged compared to last year.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Khoi – Head of the Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy – provided an analysis stating that the admission cutoff score will depend on four factors: the difficulty of the exam, the distribution of exam scores, the number of candidates applying to the major, and the quality of the candidates applying to the major.
For the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the best candidates will compete with each other, so even if the cutoff score increases, it will not fluctuate much.
Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Viet An – Head of the Undergraduate Training Department, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that the university is recruiting students nationwide with an expected target of 1,480 students for 10 training programs. The quota for the first round of admissions for each program may change from 10-201 students to suit the needs and general score level of the program. The specific number of quotas allocated in 2020 will reserve a minimum of 851 students from the Mekong Delta region, with the remaining provinces not exceeding 151 students.
“"The cutoff score for the Medical major, especially for rare majors, will be 1 point lower if admitted through the social demand-based program compared to the regular program, and 2 points lower if admitted through the 3T program compared to the regular program.".Professor, Doctor Tran Viet An – Head of the Undergraduate Training Department, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that the university is recruiting students nationwide with an expected target of 1,480 students for 10 training programs. The quota for the first round of admissions for each program may change from 10-201 students to suit the needs and general score level of the program. The specific number of quotas allocated in 2020 will reserve a minimum of 851 students from the Mekong Delta region, with the remaining provinces not exceeding 151 students.
Regarding the cutoff scores for demand-based training programs, it is currently very difficult to predict them because the admission scores depend on the number of applicants and the training quota.
In the case that a candidate is admitted to both the regular program and the program based on social needs, they can choose to study in one of the two options.”, "Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Viet An stated.".
Professor Nguyen Huu Tu, Vice Rector of Hanoi Medical University, stated that, according to many teachers' assessments, the average scores of the 2020 high school graduation exam will be significantly higher than last year. The admission scores for Hanoi Medical University this year will also follow this general trend and will be higher than last year.
The Vice Rector also offered some tips to help candidates easily get admitted to the university. For highly competitive majors such as Medicine and Dentistry, candidates can consider choosing to study at the Thanh Hoa branch campus instead of the Hanoi campus of Hanoi Medical University to increase their chances of admission. This is because the cut-off scores at the Thanh Hoa branch campus are usually 2-3 points lower than in Hanoi.
