High school graduation exam scores 2020 and predictions for college and university admission cutoff scores.

Initial information from many localities indicates that this year's high school graduation exam scores are higher than in 2019. Universities also predict that the admission scores will increase.

“"This year's exam scores are very high, so the cut-off scores for top universities are expected to be very high. Candidates should not be misled; they need a smart strategy to adjust their nguyện vọng (application preferences) in order to get into their desired major."” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Dung

According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, today (August 27), the Departments of Education and Training nationwide will simultaneously announce the results of the 2020 high school graduation exam.

The exam was easy, so scores increased.

Mr. Do Van Phu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province, said that the average exam scores for most subjects in the province have increased compared to the previous year. This has led to an increase in the average score of candidates. However, in mathematics, the percentage of high scores decreased compared to 2019. Meanwhile, the percentage of high scores in other subjects has increased. The projected graduation rate for the province is 95.71 TP3T.

High exam scores are also a common assessment from many provincial Departments of Education and Training. Ms. Huynh Le Giang, Director of the Dong Nai Department of Education and Training, stated that the overall exam score level in the province has increased compared to the previous year. However, Ms. Giang also mentioned that there is no information yet on the score distribution for each subject. "After the Ministry of Education and Training announces the graduation exam results, the department will then compile the scores of the candidates," Ms. Giang said.

According to Mr. Tran Tuan Khanh, deputy director of the An Giang Department of Education and Training, this year's exam was somewhat easier, resulting in a higher percentage of above-average scores in An Giang compared to 2019. Scores of 8 or 9 in Literature were not uncommon. Today, after the exam results are announced, the department will compile statistics on the individual subject scores of the candidates.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Binh Dinh Department of Education and Training stated that they have completed the exam score data and compiled the scores for each subject. However, today, when the Ministry of Education and Training allowed the scores to be released, the department officially announced them.

Meanwhile, after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the answer keys for the high school graduation exams, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education conducted a survey with candidates who applied for admission to the university using their high school graduation exam scores.

As a result, according to Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Dung – the school's principal, the exam scores of candidates applying for admission to the school have increased compared to the previous year. This is the reason why the school has projected the minimum admission score to range from 20-26 points.

“"The minimum admission score for the school this year is expected to increase by 2 points compared to last year due to the higher overall scores of the candidates. The cut-off scores for universities are also expected to increase," Mr. Dung added.

Score range for university entrance exam combinations

In 2020, over 900,000 candidates registered to take the high school graduation exam, an increase of more than 13,500 compared to the previous year. Of these, over 643,000 registered for university and college admissions. More than 51,700 of them were independent candidates, accounting for 5,741% of the total.

For the first time in history, the high school graduation exam was postponed by a month and a half and divided into two phases due to the impact of Covid-19. More than 880,000 candidates took the first phase of the exam on August 9-10. 26,000 candidates in Da Nang, some areas in Quang Nam, Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak), and candidates who are F0, F1, or F2 will take the second phase of the exam on September 3-4.

How to calculate the high school graduation exam score in 2020.

The 2020 high school graduation score includes the scores from the exams taken by the candidates (converted to a 10-point scale), priority points, and the average score for the entire 12th grade year.

For high school students, the graduation score is calculated using the following formula:

Candidates who participate in all exams, do not violate regulations, achieve a score above 1 point in each subject (i.e., no failing grades), and have a graduation score of 5 or higher are recognized as having graduated from high school. In special cases, candidates who meet the criteria for special exemption will still be recognized as having graduated.

Graduation scores are rounded to the second decimal place, automatically performed by a computer. After the Department of Education and Training announces the results, schools will post the list of candidates who have been recognized as graduates and issue temporary graduation certificates to them.

The process of recognizing high school graduation will be completed no later than August 30th. The issuance of temporary graduation certificates, return of academic transcripts and other certificates (original copies) to candidates will be presided over by the principals of high schools and completed no later than September 4th.
