Instead of choosing to marry early and settle down like other girls in her village, Ka Miêng chose a different path. the road to school Upon receiving the 100% scholarship from Viet My College, this strong-willed young woman overcame adversity, seizing the opportunity to pursue her dreams with the hope of bringing positive values to her family and fellow villagers.
Let's connect and learn more about this person with APC!

APC: Hi, could you please introduce yourself briefly?
Hello, my name is Ka Miêng, I'm from Lam Dong and I'm of the Co Ho ethnic group. I'm currently a first-year student. Restaurant and Hotel Management at Viet My College.
APC: So, what difficulties did Ka Mieng face during her high school years in Lam Dong, and did you think about continuing your education in Ho Chi Minh City at that time?

The first difficulty I faced when I started high school was the long distance from home to school, about 60 km. Secondly, there was the financial problem because my father was ill at the time, and the medical expenses were high, so I didn't have enough money to pay tuition. I rented a small room near the school for convenience, and since there weren't many part-time jobs in the countryside like in the city, after school I worked in the garden for others to earn money to cover expenses and ease the financial burden on my family.
I didn't think about continuing my studies in the city after graduating; I had already decided to quit school because my family was going through a very difficult time. My mother had to spend a lot of money on my father's medical expenses. I had also considered getting married early, like many girls in the village, to settle down and have some financial resources to support my mother and family.
APC: How did you feel when you learned you had received the 100% scholarship from the school?
When my homeroom teacher announced that I had received the 100% scholarship, I was both happy and scared. Scared because my father had passed away less than three months earlier, and I wanted to stay home to take care of my mother, not wanting to leave her alone. It wasn't until after my graduation exams that I could think it through properly. Only through education could I pursue my dreams and change the familiar life I'd lived for 18 years. If I hadn't gone to school, my life would probably revolve around family, farming, and children. I wanted to bring something better to my family and hometown, so I chose to continue my education with the 100% scholarship from Viet My College.
APC: Besides the 100% scholarship, have you received any other support from the school?
Besides the scholarship I received from the university, throughout my year of study, I always received enthusiastic support from my teachers, friends, and senior students in the Student Council, such as: finding accommodation, providing transportation, introducing part-time jobs, etc. I will definitely try my best to study hard as a way of thanking the school, teachers, and seniors who have cared for and helped me so much.
APC: After one year of studying at Viet My College, how has Ka Mieng changed? Can you share more about this?
I used to be very shy and insecure because I felt my skin color and voice were very different from my classmates. I was hesitant and rarely interacted with those around me. But then, I became more confident and sociable with other students. The teachers often created opportunities for me to give presentations in class, and my friends became more open and talked to me. From then on, the initial distance I had created disappeared, and I became more confident, communicative, and proactive in my studies.
APC: Miss H' Hen Nie, that girl also chose the path of education instead of getting married early and later achieved great success. What are your thoughts on this special beauty queen, Ka Miêng?
I really admire H-Hen Niê, you could say she's my idol, because she's so confident, a strong woman who has overcome all obstacles and difficulties to stand up and showcase the beauty of her homeland and her people to the world. I hope that in the future I can be as confident as her, full of strength and determination to do more good things for myself and the people in my homeland.

APC: So what are Ka Miêng's plans for the near future?
Classroom learning remains my top priority to build a solid foundation of knowledge, followed by further development in areas related to my major, such as foreign languages and communication skills. In the future, I plan to take on part-time work to gain experience and develop the necessary skills to support my future career.
She still has those same clear eyes and tanned skin, but she's completely different from the shy girl from the ethnic minority group that APC met when we, along with the teachers, awarded her a scholarship a year ago. The current Ka Miêng is not only more confident and mature, but she also possesses a strong character, having a clear plan and direction for her future life as she decides to build her career in Ho Chi Minh City. APC wishes her success and the fulfillment of her dreams!
In addition, during the 2018-2019 academic year, Viet My College also had a program Nursing scholarships And Pharmacy will receive up to 2 billion VND for these two health-related fields of study.
