A year has passed since I put down my university acceptance letter and struggled with my family about the decision to transfer to Viet My College. It's also been a year since I made a decision that changed me in a positive way. I still can't believe I'm who I am today. Here are some memorable moments from the past year.
Choosing a school: When I presented my desire to transfer to Viet My College to my family, I received strong opposition from my mother and relatives who said, "Why go to college when you've been accepted into university?" However, after much effort and having faith in Viet My College, I managed to convince everyone so that I could officially join the Viet My family.
First class: I was very impressed because the classrooms were very professional, comfortable, and had a Western style (I absolutely loved it!). Plus, the view of the campus was incredibly beautiful, and it was a great spot for young people to take Instagram-worthy photos. After the first few classes, I was completely captivated by the school's teaching style – practical examples, not rigid, flexible, proactive, and meticulously detailed in subjects like how to use facilities, how to use the elevator, how to use toilet paper, and safe sex in student life (they even included condoms!).
The activities we did together at school were amazing: For example, the ET team's charity event, which was my first time having such experiences – organizing, carrying out, wrapping, and distributing gifts to the elderly and orphans in the city. Speaking of the Baymax days, they were fantastic: first, we practiced dancing, then we went with Baymax to various locations to raise funds every day, morning and afternoon. Even though we were tired and got scolded for being late, those were the times that brought everyone closer together after all the hardships. I love the ET team! Then there was the Leadership Bootcamp, but I didn't participate and regretted it later. The Leadership team organized many events afterwards, like the Viet My Voice (my first time performing on stage), IAE's Market, and Bonding Day, all very interesting. Bonding Day was a day of completely outrageous and crazy fun, so we'll have something to show our children and grandchildren later, heheheh. Then, the Student Councils were established with a team of enthusiastic and experienced members who organized shows for students to run and were always ready to help us when needed. This year, I'll definitely be participating in the Leadership Bootcamp organized by Ms. Nga.
My teachers at school: when they talk about lecturers, it's always like this... TVB Hong Kong stars, Everyone is so handsome and beautiful, I'm head over heels for them (short guys are going crazy over Professor Doan's incredibly long legs). They're both pretty and enthusiastic, I can't stand it, and they're so youthful and have an amazing understanding of student psychology. If I have any questions, I just send an email or inbox them on Facebook and they answer immediately and thoroughly. And there are parties where teachers and students sing and chat, which helps us bond even more.
Regarding the curriculum: the learning environment is fantastic, with classes of only 10-20 people. Even when combining two classes from the same major, the maximum is only 30. Classes are conducted using projectors and air conditioning, making them incredibly comfortable. Lecturers use real-world examples from their own experiences and create many challenges for students, like in Ms. Nga's course. I didn't think a business class could organize such a successful talk show, even with only the class and faculty members in attendance. It's a proud achievement for BMS, and afterwards, we analyzed the situation to identify areas for improvement and learn from each other for future events.
Then there's my beloved BMS2015 class: at first, I thought everyone would be serious and stressed because it was a business class, but unexpectedly, it was incredibly fun and crazy, full of student vibes. Every time we had a group meeting for an assignment, it was like we'd fill up someone's entire restaurant, but when we actually worked, we were extremely serious. There's so much more, but if I tell you everything, you'll probably get exhausted reading it all. In short, I absolutely love this BMS class.
Assignments – the biggest nightmare for BTEC students: at first, everyone dreaded reading the assignments, but after a semester of assignments from Professor Khang and Professor Dung, I found them to be somewhat manageable. They honed many skills in me, such as managing my time effectively to avoid being overwhelmed by deadlines, staying calm and carefully reading every detail of information I found online to understand and incorporate into my work (leading to deeper and clearer understanding), breaking the habit of copy-pasting to avoid plagiarism, improving my memory, and building confidence in my knowledge.
The $50 Challenge: a business competition. Initially, I considered participating but was hesitant. After some searching and persuasion, I managed to recruit four more friends to form a team – the NTV Group. Before the competition, we spent a long time discussing how to present and defend our business project. We debated and worried about potential rejection or being disqualified, so the whole group used every "tactic" to make our presentation as perfect as possible. In the end, our presentation received the highest score, making our late-night stay at school worthwhile. Following that was a series of arduous days for NTV, staying up late and waking up early to prepare products for sale, arguing fiercely about poor financial management, changing business plans, and applying a lot of learned knowledge to the competition, gaining many valuable lessons and experiences. After two weeks of hard work and struggle, the results were finally announced – first prize, a great stepping stone for us and the whole team.
After a year, I feel like a different person: more energetic, more diligent, more self-loving, with a broader perspective, more skills, knowing how to improve my self-image from the smallest things, and feeling much more open-minded thanks to the knowledge my teachers imparted that isn't in textbooks. In short, I LOVE VIET MY, I LOVE BTEC TEACHERS, I LOVE BMS-2015!
