G-Game

The Viet My College Badminton Team won second place at the G-Game Sports Festival.

This is our first time participating in the G Game Sports Festival with our partner corporation. Golden Gate, The group of students from Viet My College excellently won Second place in men's doubles and Second place in women's doubles Badminton. Let's listen to An, Tien, Linh, and Tham share their exciting experience.

They met at the G-Game badminton tournament, but all four of them have different "connections" with the sport!

An: I am Vu Thien An I'm a student at Broward College, class of 2015. I've been playing badminton for over 5 years. For the first three years, I trained intensely to compete for the District 6 team. Now I've taken a 2-year break from training and am involved in the refereeing team for the District badminton team.

Tien: My name is Nguyen Huu Tien., a Public Relations student at Viet My College, class of 2015. Unlike An, she is not a professional badminton player. She usually enjoys playing soccer, swimming, and track and field. Coming to G Game, she also wanted to participate in other events and was quite confident, but due to scheduling conflicts, she could only participate in badminton and not all the other events.

Linh: I am Pham Thi Phuong Linh, I'm a BTEC Business Administration student. My "main specialization" isn't badminton; I used to be a sepak takraw player for the city team. But now I'm too old, so I've retired. Occasionally, my teacher calls me over to play with the younger kids. I play all kinds of sports, although I usually don't practice beforehand. I feel like it's innate; I can learn by watching others play. I didn't practice badminton before either. When I was in high school, I participated in competitions, and while I wasn't a professional, I was good enough.

Tham: I am Pham Thi Tham. I am a Business Administration student at Broward College, 2015. I enjoy sports and can play badminton, sepak takraw, and swim. I'm not particularly good at any one sport; I mostly play to relieve stress. I joined G Game because my friend An invited me. She asked me to team up with her. I wasn't very confident, but An said, "Don't worry, I'll train you," so I bravely joined.

How did the students meet and pair up for the competition at this year's G-Game?

Tien: We met at the court. Initially, Linh and I were a pair, and An and Tham were another pair. We registered for all three events—mixed doubles, men's doubles, and women's doubles—to increase our chances of competing and advancing to the next round.

However, mixed doubles pairs did not last long in the entire tournament, while male-male and female-female doubles pairs were the ones that went further.

In sports competitions, what is important for winning?

An: Technique and skill are important. But I think the most important thing is mutual understanding during the competition.

Linh and Tiến: When competing, we divide the roles between the two of us. In men's doubles, Tiến is the net guard, and Ân is the backcourt guard. In women's doubles, Thắm is the net guard, and Linh is the court guard.

A moment of passionate competition from An, Tien, Linh, and Tham at G-Game 2015.

How many matches did you all compete in to win this award?

An and Tien: We had to compete in a total of 4 matches, but one match was forfeited by our opponent, so I only played 3 matches.

Linh and Thắm: Because there were fewer contestants, we competed in a total of 3 matches.

What are your thoughts on G Game?

I found the qualifying rounds to be simple and quick. But the finals were spectacular and surprised us. I think the G-Game organizing committee worked very hard to ensure the tournament was well-organized. This was our school's first time participating, so we tried our best, along with the seniors and teachers, to connect and participate in the tournament.

Can you recount the events of the final match?

An + Tien: The final match was a memorable and somewhat frustrating experience for all four of us, having made it this far only to lose and finish second. For us men's doubles, the problem was that we practiced one style but played another. And because of our nerves, we didn't have time to adjust and calm down according to our plan. Therefore, we lost quite quickly.

Linh + Thắm: As usual, we played 3 sets. We lost the first set, we managed to win the second, and we tried our best in the third, but because our opponents played so well together, we still lost in the end. We accepted our defeat, but next year, if we have more time to practice beforehand, we still believe we can win.

What ideas did you get from G-Game?

The greatest joy was that after the G Game, we made new friends. Through the matches, overcoming the psychological pressure of playing against the large and powerful home team quickly made us close friends.

We also hope this will be a foundation for the further development of sports activities at our school. We are ready to play and guide our classmates in the sports we know. Engaging in sports is fun, relieves stress, and who knows, maybe next year we can win even more prizes in competitions.

Thank you for the interesting conversation. I wish you all the best in your studies and lots of fun with your friends.
