In accordance with Directive No. 05/CT-TTg dated January 28, 2020, of the Prime Minister and Official Dispatch No. 121/CĐ-CP dated January 23, 2020, Official Dispatch No. 335/LĐTBXH-VP of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Official Dispatch No. 43/CĐ-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training on preventing and controlling the acute respiratory disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, Viet My College is urgently implementing preventive measures to protect the health of students and staff before students resume classes on February 10, 2020.
The school proactively prepared preventative measures in response to the Coronavirus situation.
According to the Ministry of Health, acute respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV) is an acute infectious disease belonging to group A, transmitted from person to person. Since the cluster of cases recorded in Wuhan City, China, was reported to the World Health Organization on December 3, 2019, up to January 31, 2020, there have been 9,600 cases worldwide and 213 deaths. Patients exhibit symptoms of acute respiratory inflammation: fever, cough, shortness of breath; in some cases, severe pneumonia may develop, potentially leading to acute respiratory failure and death, especially in individuals with chronic illnesses or underlying conditions. Some people infected with the nCoV virus may have mild or no symptoms, making detection difficult. To date, there is no specific treatment or vaccine for the disease.
In accordance with Directive No. 05/CT-TTg dated January 28, 2020, of the Prime Minister and Telegram No. 121/CĐ-CP dated January 23, 2020, on the prevention and control of acute respiratory disease caused by the new strain of Coronavirus, the Ministry of Education and Training requests provincial Departments of Education and Training to proactively coordinate with local health departments and relevant agencies to implement a number of tasks to prevent the entry and spread of the disease and to proactively respond most effectively in schools.

Accordingly, the school established a Rapid Response Team, coordinated by the Administrative Department, the Student Support Department, and the Training Department, to develop plans and strategies for timely handling of the situation. The nCoV epidemic prevention and control rapid response team is tasked with closely monitoring the complex developments of the epidemic to develop specific action programs and response scenarios for each case. At the same time, the school proactively coordinates with medical facilities and relevant authorities to prevent and promptly contain the entry and spread of the disease within the school.
To ensure a safe environment, the school will conduct thorough cleaning and disinfection of all learning and working spaces at all campuses before students officially return to school on February 10, 2020. Departments will also prepare necessary supplies such as disinfectants and hand soap in various areas of the school; arrange medical personnel and support plans to promptly handle any needs of faculty, staff, and students; and coordinate with health authorities to respond quickly to cases of faculty, staff, and students experiencing fever or showing signs of infection.
Students and staff should proactively protect their health before returning to school.
The school also announced that all faculty, staff, and students must strictly adhere to measures to prevent the Coronavirus, such as: wearing masks when coming to school, improving air circulation in offices; increasing vitamin C intake, keeping warm, drinking plenty of water; regularly cleaning the workplace; and proactively updating information from official sources (websites of the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization – WHO, etc.) to stay informed about the epidemic situation and take appropriate action.
Information about the disease, prevention measures, and precautions will be continuously updated by the school on its website and fanpage. Students should proactively access this information to protect their own health and the community in light of the spreading epidemic and the lack of a specific cure or vaccine.

Below are some measures recommended by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) that students should take to proactively prevent illness while studying at school:
1. Avoid traveling if you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any suspicious symptoms. Also, share your travel history with healthcare professionals.
2. Avoid contact with people who have fever or cough. Wash your hands frequently with soap and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
3. When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve. After using the tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
4. If you experience any symptoms of illness while traveling, immediately inform airline, railway, or bus staff and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
5. Only consume cooked food.
6. Do not spit indiscriminately in public places. Avoid close contact with domestic or wild animals.
7. Wear a mask when going to crowded places or when in contact with people who have symptoms of illness.
