The Future of the Job Market (Part 2)

Continuing the series of articles by businesswoman Nguyen Phi Van on the changes in the labor market in the coming years, this time, according to forecasts from the World Economic Forum, the labor market will undergo major shifts by 2022 with:

75 million jobs are certain to be lost in the following positions:

– Data entry clerk
– Accounting, accounting data entry, payroll accounting
- Secretary
– Production workers
– Information and Customer Service Staff
– Head of Administration and Services
– Accounting & Auditing
– Inventory data collector
– Postal Service Secretary

But on the other hand, there's good news for the young workforce, with 133 million new jobs created in attractive positions:

– Data analysis & data science
– Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Specialist
– Director of Operations & Management
– Software and application analysis and development
– Sales & Marketing Specialist
– Big Data Specialist
– Digital Transformation Specialist
– New technology specialist
– Organizational Development Specialist
– Information technology services

It is easy to see that new jobs are emerging to meet the strong innovation demands of the modern Industry 4.0 revolution, creating opportunities for a dynamic and enthusiastic young generation with incredibly exciting new playing fields. On the other hand, this dramatic change leads to a high risk of unemployment for the large workforce, representing the 75 million jobs that will be lost. Therefore, the dramatic changes in the labor market not only foreshadow the development of technology and automation but also serve as a warning to the workforce whose jobs will be lost – that they must immediately upgrade their skills and re-equip themselves with the knowledge needed to integrate and adapt to the global landscape.

What preparations are needed to keep up with these changes?

In general, the new jobs that emerge are all related to creative thinking and the ability to connect the real and virtual worlds. For example, to become a specialist who can provide creative solutions in a complex environment and face challenging problems, one needs to cultivate design thinking, the ability to be creative without being confined, and knowledge of anthropology and culture to create solutions based on understanding people, and to collaborate with people worldwide. Creative thinking is something that needs to be approached and cultivated throughout life.
Therefore, for young children, parents should approach learning through play, project-based learning, and group work to nurture creativity. Let's forget about the idea that going to school means getting grades and proving your abilities with tangible things. The change in mindset is that parents and teachers must work together to monitor the individual development of children's thinking and problem-solving skills. Obsessing over grades and scores will only hinder creativity and prevent children from excelling. For adults, reskilling is essential – learning new skills to gradually change their approach and solve problems more creatively. A design thinking course is one of the most important investments you can make in yourself. Both businesses and individuals need to start seriously considering reskilling.
