The 2020 National High School Graduation Examination will essentially remain the same as in 2019.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced guidelines for quality management tasks in the 2019-2020 school year, with specific notes regarding the 2020 National High School Graduation Examination.

The Ministry of Education and Training announced that the 2020 national high school graduation exam will be organized in a way that maintains the basic stability of 2019, aiming to accurately assess students' learning outcomes after 12 years of general education.

The exam results are reliable and provide differentiation for considering high school graduation for candidates, and provide information to assess the quality of education, adjust the teaching process to improve the quality of teaching in high schools; they also serve as a basis for admission to higher education and vocational education in accordance with the autonomous admissions principle stipulated in the amended and supplemented Law on Higher Education.

Among the key tasks, the Ministry of Education and Training requires provincial Departments of Education and Training to strengthen guidance on reforming teaching methods and reforming regular and periodic testing and evaluation in high schools according to the competency-based assessment orientation, ensuring consistency and contributing to improving the quality and effectiveness of the national high school graduation examination.

Prepare the conditions for piloting the development of standardized question banks for regular assessment of subjects at the high school level.

The Ministry of Education and Training also emphasized the need to strengthen educational communication to raise awareness among officials, teachers, students, trainees, and the entire society about the national high school graduation exam. It stressed the importance of enhancing state management functions, inspection, and supervision roles; and linking the responsibilities of the People's Committees, provincial exam steering committees, and Departments of Education and Training in directing and managing the exam organization with the examination boards…

At the same time, improve the selection of personnel for the national high school graduation exam. Strengthen the dissemination of regulations on the national high school graduation exam and the recognition of high school graduation. Improve the quality of professional training for all individuals and forces involved in organizing the exam. Pay special attention to providing thorough professional training for officials performing inspection and supervision duties.

The Ministry also requested the promotion of information technology application in the management, direction, and organization of the exam; strict implementation of the information and reporting system to ensure smooth, accurate, and timely information connectivity to serve the direction and organization of the exam; early and thorough preparation of conditions for the successful organization of the 2020 national high school graduation exam; and the development of contingency plans to handle potential risks during the exam.
