Life skills: What to do when feeling discouraged in life?

To the young people,

Lately, I've been hearing more and more complaints like this: I can't understand how young people these days treat their work and careers; they lack perseverance in everything they do, they get bored easily; they get sulky when criticized for their inexperience; they're always looking for something better elsewhere; they don't feel any pressure at work, they don't hesitate because they have responsibilities to many other things, etc.

So today I have a few thoughts I'd like to share with you all, hoping they'll be somewhat helpful in achieving greater success in your careers.

What to do when feeling down

1. Whenever you feel like complaining, "Life is so hard, work is so exhausting," ask yourself, "Compared to what, compared to whom?" A 5-year-old child already sells lottery tickets and cooks meals to support her bedridden mother and younger sister; an elderly woman with a broken arm still sits on a boat for eight hours all night, carrying baskets of fruit to Saigon to sell for a living; people rebuild their lives after devastating natural disasters… Are you working harder than them?

2. Be loyal. Be persistent and dedicated. Without loyalty, you have nothing. No one has ever succeeded without persistence, enthusiasm, and passion. All the smartest people in the world work the hardest in the world; it's not just those who aren't smart who have to compensate with hard work.

3. Show your capabilities. If you're good at something, contribute to the work, even if it's not your primary responsibility. New initiatives and improvements will surely be recognized. If you have grievances, dissatisfaction, or disagreements, don't hesitate to express them to resolve them. Keeping things to yourself and expecting others to figure it out is never a good approach.

4. Learn to motivate yourself; don't wait for anyone else, not even your superiors. In reality, no one can motivate you but yourself. The company can only help create an environment that nurtures and encourages you to motivate yourself, contributing to the overall motivation that drives the organization's growth.

Work, save money, and travel.

5. Don't put your own interests above all else. Be considerate of others, live responsibly, and work with discipline. Organizational success is essential for individual success.

6. Living sincerely is the wisest way to live. Be honest and polite when dealing with others. You don't need to love everyone, but you certainly don't need to be insincere with everyone. You can't genuinely love a colleague while remaining close to someone who constantly thinks ill of, speaks ill of, and harms them, even though you know it's wrong and unfair. There's a saying, "If you don't want people to know something, don't do it." Things done behind someone's back will eventually be revealed, especially if you confide in the wrong person—a sincere/loyal person—or simply expose your screen or chat account. In such a situation, choose to befriend one person and don't harm anyone else.

7. Be polite and grateful. Personality is the opposite of disrespect. You can absolutely offer constructive criticism and suggestions without insulting or disrespecting others, especially superiors or those older or more experienced than you. You will only be respected when you show respect. And gratitude is the greatest gift you can give to those who have done good for you.

8. Before you want to end something, think back to how you started it. If you're halfway through a project and want to give up because you're too tired, do you remember how exciting it was? If you're facing difficulties and want to "quit now and figure things out later" to quickly "escape the predicament," do you remember how eager you were to take on this job? Thinking it over a second time always leads to a better decision.

Don't throw everything away just because you… don't like it!

9. (This is especially true for girls.) Love isn't the whole of life. Just because you're unhappy with it doesn't mean you're the unhappiest person in the world. Breaking your heart is his fault, but letting him ruin your life and career is your fault. After all, are you going to live on? If you need someone who will never betray you, take a selfie.

10. Finally, a person's greatest asset is dignity. Pope Francis once said, "Where there is no work, there is no dignity." To have dignity, one must live a useful life. To live a useful life, one must create value through work. What is your value? You will surely receive what is commensurate with the value you have created and contributed, sooner or later, it doesn't matter.

“"Life is about not waiting" can sometimes lead to disappointments waiting for you ahead. Slow down and think carefully. The greatest advantage of youth is time, but don't waste it on short, stop-and-go runs without achieving anything significant. And "there are never shortcuts to success.".

I wish the young people good health, happiness, and success in their work.
