Eleven work sessions in one week with international brands such as Vinpearl, Marriott International, Accor, IHG, Meliá Hotels International, and Wyndham open up more internship and training opportunities linked to the practical needs of the tourism and hospitality industry.
Ho Chi Minh City, September 11, 2026 — Viet My College has just completed a business trip to Phu Quoc with 11 working sessions with leading hotels and resorts on the island, including: Vinpearl, JW Marriott, Sheraton, Regent, InterContinental, Sol by Meliá, Meliá Vinpearl, La Veranda MGallery, Wyndham, and Sailing Club.

The working sessions focused on expanding internship opportunities for students while increasing business involvement in the training process. Most partners also signed memoranda of cooperation with the university and agreed on plans to expand the number of interns accepted in the future.
One notable point in the discussions was the increasingly clear need from businesses. Instead of just looking for students for short-term internships, Many hotels are looking to accept a larger number of interns and extend the internship period to give students more opportunities to familiarize themselves with, adapt to, and grow in a real-world work environment.

Expanding cooperation with major partners.
The signing ceremony for the memorandum of cooperation between Viet My College and Vinpearl Phu Quoc was held on September 4, 2026, with the participation of representatives from both sides. This is the next step in the collaboration between the two organizations, aiming to expand the scale of internship acceptance and standardize coordination processes.
During the working sessions, one of the topics of greatest interest to both sides was the competency standards for each job position and how to prepare students before they begin their internships.
Viet My College and businesses are collaborating to develop a set of standards for each position, thereby helping to place interns more closely aligned with their actual capabilities.. The school also collaborates with businesses to develop an onboarding framework right from the preparation stage, helping students understand the work environment, job requirements, and necessary skills before starting their internship.

From internships to career opportunities
Feedback from businesses also highlights the value of hands-on experience for Vietnamese-American students.
In JW Marriott Phu Quoc, In a hotel with a relatively rigorous internship selection process, representatives highly appreciated the students' teamwork skills, communication confidence, eagerness to learn, and proactive approach to supporting colleagues. Both sides also agreed on their desire to build a long-term cooperative relationship and welcome more students in the future.
Another case recorded by the school is A student, after completing an internship at JW Marriott Phu Quoc, was subsequently offered a job at a 5-star resort in Nha Trang without an interview..
Such results demonstrate that internships are not only a part of the curriculum, but can also be the starting point for students' career journeys.
Businesses are involved right from the training process.

In addition to accepting interns, many partners wish to be more deeply involved in the process of preparing students before they enter the real work environment.
InterContinental & Regent Phu Quoc proposed sending hotel experts to interact with and conduct workshops directly with students.. The hotel representative also emphasized the importance of having a sufficiently long internship so that students can truly become familiar with the pace and demands of a 5-star hotel environment.

Meanwhile, Sailing Club Phu Quoc introduces a comprehensive 12-month internship program, including stipend, accommodation, meals, uniform, 24/7 accident insurance, and travel expense support. With a management team directly involved in daily operations, interns have the opportunity to receive guidance and learn directly from those already working in the field.

Meliá Vinpearl Phú Quốc, Sol by Meliá, Wyndham, Regent, and La Veranda MGallery also discussed with the school their plans for accepting interns, support programs, and requirements related to documentation, safety, and living conditions.

Preparing human resources for Phu Quoc ahead of APEC 2027.
Phu Quoc is entering a period of rapid development as many hotel and infrastructure projects are being accelerated in preparation for APEC 2027. Along with the development of the destination, the demand for high-quality service personnel is also increasing.
Through these meetings, the school Viet My College recognizes that the market demand goes beyond just the number of personnel; it increasingly emphasizes professional skills, foreign language proficiency, and the ability to adapt to an international environment..
Besides English, some partners have indicated a need for personnel proficient in Russian, Korean, and Chinese, aligning with the growing diversity of the tourist market in Phu Quoc.. These are also directions that the school is continuing to research in order to update its training plan.
From business needs to training programs

The trip to Phu Quoc provided the school with not only new collaboration opportunities but also more concrete insights into the labor market's needs.
“What we brought back from Phu Quoc was not only internship opportunities for students, but also very specific requirements from the market. For a vocational school, it is important to listen to businesses and translate those requirements into practical skills for learners.”
— Mr. Hoang Van Cuong, Vice Principal of Viet My College

In the fourth quarter of 2026, the school plans to continue collaborating with partners to finalize the onboarding framework, while also strengthening the role of faculty members in accompanying and supporting each group of students during their internship.
By bringing businesses closer to the training process, the school aims for a model where students are better prepared before internships, have more opportunities to learn from real-world environments, and gradually develop professional skills while still in school.
