That was the advice given by the principal of Phu My High School to the 12th-grade students during a sharing session and meeting with the Vietnam-America College (APC) career counseling and admissions team.
Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is one of the key economic regions in Southern Vietnam, with outstanding development in five leading economic sectors: industry, seaports, port logistics services, tourism, and high-tech agriculture. As a result, businesses in the province consistently have a high demand for local and national labor. Therefore, from their early years in high school, students receive focused guidance and career counseling from their families and teachers, aligning their aspirations with socio-economic development trends.
The school implements subject-based subject divisions starting from grade 10, organizes career orientation sessions, and invites alumni to share their experiences in choosing a career. In addition, foreign languages are also a key focus for teachers, who encourage students to concentrate on learning them. Therefore, the school administration also organizes mock English exams such as IELTS and TOEFL for students. These are some of the career guidance activities undertaken by the school administration at high schools in Ba Ria - Vung Tau for students in general and grade 12 students in particular.
Mr. Nguyen Van Liem, the principal of Tran Nguyen Han School, shared further: ‘"...During career guidance sessions, teachers always encourage students to choose a profession based on their own aspirations, rather than following societal trends that force them to attend university. Otherwise, they might end up studying and working in a field unrelated to their studies, graduating without a job, and wasting their time."’

As one of the key economic regions, Ba Ria - Vung Tau attracts not only domestic but also international investors. This demands a workforce that is not only highly skilled in their field but also proficient in foreign languages. Therefore, encouraging and incorporating English and Japanese into the curriculum for students starting from grade 10 is particularly noteworthy.
At Phu My High School, Principal Truong Mai Huy added: ‘"Students at the school have been learning English and Japanese since their first year of high school, with four lessons per week for each subject. The classes are taught by specialized teachers along with native speakers from the Vietnam-Japan Center. Our goal is to help students become proficient in foreign languages for communication, giving them more opportunities in their future careers. Because only foreign languages can help you go further; a degree is just a ticket, the main thing is that each student hones their foreign language skills and communication abilities.".’

During their career guidance and recruitment activities in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, members of the Viet My College delegation received numerous questions and significant interest in fields such as English and Japanese languages, restaurant and hotel management, and public relations, as well as the training programs offered at the college.

Driven by the local labor market demand, the fields of study that students are particularly interested in include: Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Public Relations, etc.The trip concluded with many special emotions from the APC admissions counseling team for teachers and students throughout Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in general. APC hopes for a generation of students who are proactive, confident, and capable when facing the challenges of choosing a career and practicing their profession.
