It may sound surprising, but according to the latest statistics, CEOs at all major corporations started in sales. While sales is a job anyone can do, becoming a truly skilled salesperson is a different matter entirely. Sales is not only a learning environment that provides invaluable experience in management and becoming the owner of a business, but it's also a crucial factor in developing the qualities needed to become a top-level manager.

It's hardly surprising that the demand for business opportunities is increasing in today's market, and therefore young people (especially recent graduates) are always eager to challenge themselves in a different field with a harsh environment and high attrition rate.
Most people think sales is a profession anyone can do, but it's actually very tough. You can't succeed in sales if your ego is too big; you have to adapt to circumstances and completely change your own expectations. Professional salespeople face many challenges in a highly competitive environment.
So what does it take to become a professional salesperson, and am I suited to this challenging yet glamorous profession? Let APC share with you these 5 things that will stay in your mind..

1. Everyone achieves different results despite receiving the same education.
Leaving aside the business field, many recent graduates today believe they can apply their academic knowledge to practice, so they think it's easy after four years of hard work in university. However, you should know that practical knowledge is far different from real-world experience. A university degree only gives you a general overview of your chosen field; becoming truly skilled comes from the experience you gain through work. Sales jobs are even more demanding; you'll quickly become discouraged by the immense pressure of not earning a single penny despite your hard work.
To evaluate a good salesperson, they only need to look at the sales they generate, without considering whether they make a profit or not. The likelihood of them giving up is also very high. You have to face real-world situations involving circumstances, customers, and the environment, and these factors affect whether your revenue is profitable or not. Most newcomers to the profession lack experience and therefore easily become discouraged, feeling they are not suited to the job.
One way to gain the most comprehensive understanding of the sales industry is to put yourself in the customer's shoes and consider what you need from the product. Customers never tell you what they want, they never provide it, and you are the one who controls all possible scenarios. This is the most important first step you must keep in mind if you want to succeed in this glamorous field.
2. Know how to make yourself look old.
This concept is quite unusual but very interesting, as it allows you to sell to a segment of older people who prefer traditional and demanding sales methods. Perhaps most of you, being young and just starting out in business, have a modern mindset and prefer serving younger customers rather than older ones. This is a mistake you should avoid.
If you can win over customers in this age group, you'll definitely be the top choice for their whole family, and the profits will be enormous. Keep your business methods more "traditional" by starting to record everything, using paper documents more often instead of computers… Don't get discouraged if success doesn't come quickly.
3. Regularly update your knowledge of new technologies.

This might seem contradictory to point number 2, but it's crucial, especially considering your expertise and the field you're in. With the advantage of being young, it won't be difficult for you to find and acquire the latest knowledge and advanced technologies.
Showing customers your understanding of the product and clearly demonstrating its brand-new features will build their trust in the product they need. This way, you'll also make a great impression on your boss and colleagues for your knowledge and proactive approach.
4. Continuously review and consider.
Whatever the case may be, this fourth point is absolutely essential: careful consideration and deliberation to ensure all processes meet standards, minimize risks, and improve everything. The same applies to business; you may be young, confident, and quite relaxed, but pay attention to your actions and how you interact with those around you.
The line between professionalism and personal life is very thin. You can easily be judged by others if you accidentally say something too blunt, so you should avoid and minimize unnecessary arguments and negative rumors in the workplace.
You will be evaluated based on your contributions and, to another extent, on how you behave in a way that aligns with the company culture.
“Most people think “selling” means “talking.” But a truly good salesperson needs to know how to listen; that’s the most important thing,” – Roy Bartell.
Being a good salesperson requires someone who listens and understands the customer, constantly reviewing and considering whether something is right or wrong, or perhaps seeking advice from those with more experience. You're young, and this is an excellent time to hone your skills and learn. You're young, and this is a great time to hone your skills and learn.
5. Take advantage of youth.
Of the four points above, youth is undoubtedly the most frequently mentioned "keyword," meaning it's a major advantage for those currently working in or about to enter this business sector. Nothing is more valuable than youth, with its unique and dynamic mind perfectly suited to this competitive work environment. Take full advantage of it and don't let your youth slip away wasted.
