Instead of awarding cash prizes, the EQuest Education Organization decided to invite the female players of the Vietnamese women's national football team to return to school.
On December 8th, Mr. Nguyen Quang Binh, a member of the Board of Directors of the EQuest Group educational organization, announced that Viet My College, Phu Xuan University, Saigon Polytechnic College, and Broward University in Vietnam are inviting female national football team players to study with scholarships equivalent to 90% tuition fees for the entire 3-4 years of study.
“This scholarship is for all members of the 2019 SEA Games women's football team. The scholarship amount ranges from 70 to 250 million VND for the entire 3-4 year course of study at the vocational secondary, college, or bachelor's level. Students can choose to study in Hanoi, Hue, or Ho Chi Minh City,” Mr. Binh informed.
“"Looking at the broader picture of sports, female athletes still face many disadvantages. Therefore, we want to dedicate this to the female players in the national football team. We decided not to give them money, but to give them the opportunity to pursue professional training, which will allow them to go much further. Many of the players do not yet have a stable job; after training, they can find good, high-paying jobs," Mr. Binh explained.
Why only 90% tuition fee is offered as a gift instead of the full package? Mr. Binh explained: "Free things are never effective. Those involved in training understand that the 10% tuition fee is symbolic to encourage students to take responsibility. For those without money, the school will assist with job placement.".
Female athletes can choose to study suitable fields such as: sports management, tourism, hospitality, foreign languages, sales, nursing, media and public relations, business administration, accounting, and information technology. The only entry requirement is a junior high school diploma.
In addition, this educational institution will assist the athletes in finding employment while they are studying.
For those who do not wish to pursue further education, the corporation commits to arranging employment for 5 female athletes in any sport with a salary of no less than 10 million VND/month within the corporation (meeting recruitment needs).
